The Guildhall was founded in 1918 at St Mark’s Church in Foleshill, and were known then as The St Mark’s Players. The main performances at that point were concerts of well known songs and monologues. Music Hall in fact. During the 1920’s the society moved on to the works of Gilbert and Sullivan and the operettas of Ivor Novello.

Following a break for the 2nd World War the society moved on to the "new" musicals. This was accompanied by a name change to Guildhall Amateur Operatic Society (GAOS), when links to St Mark’s Church changed.

By the 1950’s there was a wealth of new musicals being produced by such writers and composers as Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Loewe, for example. GAOS explored many of these shows such as "My Fair Lady", "Oklahoma!", "Carousel" and "The King and I" to name but a few. These still prove popular to this day.

The society has performed at a number of locations in Coventry in its illustrious history including the Coventry Hippodrome, where the Transport Museum now stands, as well as the Belgrade Theatre. Guildhall finally found a home in The College Theatre in Coventry Technical College at the Butts, putting on productions up until its temporary closure at the start of 2009. In 2013 the theatre re-opened as an independant theatre run by a charitable trust. We were the first society to produce a major musical there. It was "Oliver In April 2014 we performed Calamity Jane.

Since 2014 our production of "Witches of Eastwick" showed that we could no longer produc e the kind of shows that bring in good audiences on our own. We teamed up with "Three Spires Musical Society to jointly produce Winter Pantomimes and popular Summer Shows. In 2017 we moved to The Warwick University Arts Centre" for "Pricilla Queen of the Desert".

During 2017 we entered in to discussions with "Three Spires Musical Society" with the aim of amagamating together to enable us to keep on with our stated aims. The "New Society" was formed on October 1st 2017 iits name is "Three Spires Guildhall". Since 2018 we have been performing two shows a year. Our annual pantomime is performed in January and we have recently finished a very successful week bringing Dick Whittington to the stage. Our next project is Legally Blonde to be performed at the Warwick Arts Centre in June.
