What a wonderful, uplifting evening this was. The youngsters sang and moved together in well executed routines. So much work and effort had gone into their performance. The choices of music were all accessible and all the cast were obviously enthusiastically engaged. The show opened in a splash of red costumes against a sun burst background with the ensemble singing The Greatest Showman. Groups of singers followed with A Million Dreams. Ava showed her clear voice and diction in This is Me. In a change of costume to blue in keeping with the movie theme, they moved on to a well interpreted selection from ‘Frozen’ with Holly and Hayleigh doing a great job leading the famous Let It Go, while Ewan and John enjoyed giving us comic moments in Reindeers Are Better Than People, before some keen movement to Some Things Never Change. After the interval, came a sequence from ‘Annie’ where Hayleigh excelled herself as the drunken Miss Hannigan in Little Girls. The youngsters embraced Hard Knock Life and sang a rousing Tomorrow. Coming after this were three songs from ‘Chitty, Chitty Bang Bang’, its signature song as well as Holly, Ava, Hayleigh and Ellie performing a great routine for Doll on a Music Box. Changing costumes again to reflect wild life, we had an emotional Circle of Life followed by John and Conor and Ellie leading I Just Can’t Wait to be King. The evening ended with excerpts from ‘Moana’ and ‘School of Rock’. Scene changes were all carried out smoothly. To give time for helpers to change costumes and re coup, there were video clips of the youngsters at work in school which demonstrated how far these young people had come. What was memorable about these performances was the young folk’s commitment and excitement in performing. It is great that they were all given the opportunity to develop their skills and confidence through drama and song. Their efforts were truly inspiring. Parents and staff can be justifiably proud of the way they responded for their audiences. Congratulations and well done everyone.
