NODA Theatre Summer School 2026 - Evening Classes

Evening sessions on Monday and Wednesday are volunteered and hosted by our tutors to allow students a taster of something a little different, mix with students from other courses and have fun. Each will last a maximum of 90 mins and have a slightly less formal feel than daytime classes.

We hope you enjoy the selections for 2026

Attendance at our Monday and Wednesday sessions is optional.

Please sign up for your first and second choices. We will aim to make sure that you get your first choice on at least one of the nights, where possible but numbers are often tight on some courses so bear this in mind (spaces are NOT allocated on a first come first served basis).  Please make your selection before Midday on Sunday 2nd August.

• Scroll down to the bottom of the page where you will see a section Your Activities.  (If you do not see this, you’re not logged in, or aren't on the account that your course place is registered with!)

• Use the Drop Down boxes to select your first and second options 

• Click on "Save Choices"

• If you change your mind, you can return to this page and update your option. Please remember to do this before Midday on Sunday 2nd August as we can't guarantee to see the changes you make after this.

Monday Evening Classes

• An Evening of Cole Porter - with Pam
  Join Pam for an evening of singing whilst celebrating the work of the composer and song writer Cole Porter. A practical class that offers the chance to enjoy his witty lyrics and rich melodies, it’s the perfect way to spend an evening for anyone who loves to sing.
• Design and make a puppet booth in an hour! - with Jonny
  This will be a fun and fast track session looking at getting design ideas quickly off the page and onto the stage. Together we’ll come up with an idea for a ‘punch and Judy’ size puppet booth set and the 2D characters it might contain. Then we’ll get to work at bringing it to life using cardboard, tape, cloth and pens and paper! Drawing/ design/making skills might be helpful but are not essential. This is about making something happen in a space and using simple materials to create characterful creations from scratch. Come along and have a play and maybe learn some new skills on the way!
• Introduction to Playwriting - with Jasmin
  Have you ever thought about writing a play but not sure where to start? This session will help you generate some initial ideas and cover the core fundamentals of where to begin when writing for stage. You will be introduced to the skills involved in beginning a play and learn some of the tools to embark on your playwriting journey.
• Making It Up with the Mighty Heart Collective - with Grace
  Grace is one half of Mighty Heart Collective CIC whose work focuses on community, collaboration and compassion. This session is a taster of their techniques bespoke to a NODA environment. It harnesses making with joyous chaos and exploring techniques for instant scene generation. Participants build stories and then instantly stage them - approaching devising in a whole new collaborative and playful way.
• Process Matters - with Sarah
  Join the director of NODA Theatre Summer School to practically explore how a more mindful approach to rehearsals, rather than a fixation on what is presented on stage, can help people grow in confidence and skills. We’ll also look at how this, in turn, creates a better-quality performance or production. Expect to need to play, discuss, debate and reflect – with a few tried and tested communication tools thrown in for good measure. Great for directors that want to make rehearsal rooms the best they can be and actors who want to bring their best to their work in theatre.
• Quick special effects makeup - with Paul
  Join Paul for a practical session to discover how to create easy and quick SFX makeup effects, to enhance the production values of your work!
• Share, Play, Repeat - with Sarah and Connor
  Join Sarah and Connor for a 90 minute immersive theatre games sharing. Sarah and Conor have a number of physical and vocal theatre games they would love to share with you. These games aim to aid team building, communication, cognitive warmup, physical warmup, energy release and focus. And also, it’s a LOAD OF FUN! We would love it if you also had any games you want to share with the group. The names of anyone wishing to share will go into a hat and picked at random. We will aim to dedicate 30mins of the session to student sharing. So come along for a high energy hour and a half of fun, laughter and play.
• Walking Wounded with Tom Jordan
  Characters often sustain injuries during fights. What happens if they have to continue fighting through the injury? What if they enter the fight already injured? In this session we will learn a short piece of fight choreography and explore how we might safely and effectively play injuries that we carry through the fight.

Wednesday Evening Classes

• Alexander Technique with Breath work and Visualisation - with Eliane
  A calming and focused session to explore the grounding benefits of the Alexander technique. Then moving on to breath work and visualisation.
• An Introduction to Stage Set Design - with Alex
  A chance to listen and learn from Alex’s vast experience as a set designer. A must for anyone interested in this vital element of staging productions.
• Audition Practice - with Chris
  In this practical session you will work on the fundamentals of nailing an audition. Prepare a contemporary or classical monologue to present.
• Bringing Shakespeare to Life - with Ellie
  Delve into the world of Romeo & Juliet, looking at how an actor can mine for clues in a Shakespeare text to bring a character off the page and unlock a scene. Finding the fun and the games in Shakespeare!
• General American Accent Workshop with Rosemary
  During this 90 minute workshop you will learn the key features of a ‘General American Accent’. We will discuss what makes an accent and explore practical voice exercises that will connect you to your own voice followed by the key exercises to get into accent. General American is widely used and a great skill for any actor’s tool kit.
• Stop Copying the West End! - with Jack and Lucie
  Local theatre shouldn’t be a pale imitation of the West End. This session challenges the instinct to replicate commercial productions in amateur and community settings, and explores how this often dilutes clarity, creativity and storytelling. A discussion on why different contexts need different creative languages, and how to build work that actually belongs to your company and audience.
• Too Scared to Dance? - with Lynne
  A fun dance class for all those who always tell me they’d love to try the dance option but are too scared to commit to a week of it. Come along and try it… ‘One Night Only!’ (I promise, I will be gentle with you!!!)
