Terms and Conditions
1. General
These terms and conditions apply to all bookings to attend the NODA Theatre Summer School.
There are only a limited number of places on each course. Students are advised to enrol as early as possible to ensure a place on their chosen course.
All information about NODA Theatre Summer School is correct at the time of publication. NODA aims to deliver the Summer School as described; however, course content may change due to circumstances beyond NODA’s reasonable control and also depends on the level and dynamic of any particular group of students. NODA reserves the right to alter course content at any point at the reasonable request of a tutor.
Evening sessions are offered as a voluntary additional item by individual tutors, and spaces are dependent on demand. Places for any chosen evening course cannot be guaranteed.
2. Eligibility
NODA only accepts applications from students who are at least 18 years old on the first day of the Summer School. NODA cannot obtain public liability insurance for anyone over 85 years old. While NODA recognises that setting an arbitrary upper age limit might exclude some individuals from attending, it is necessary to prevent exposure to a potentially disastrous, uninsured liability.
Those aged 85 or above may only attend if they have arranged their own insurance cover, which must be reasonably acceptable to NODA. Any student who is not an Individual Member of NODA or a bona fide member of a NODA or AIMS affiliated Society must pay an additional fee for individual NODA membership.
Click here for information on membership fees and how to apply.
3. Registering for a course
Students must fill out the online application form. By doing so, students confirm that they have read, understood, and agree to these terms and conditions.
A booking is only confirmed once the completed application form and the required deposit or full fee have been received, after which NODA sends the student an email confirming their place along with an invoice for the remaining course fees. A paper-based confirmation is available on request.
NODA is pleased to offer UK-based students the chance to apply for a Bursary funded by NODA to support their attendance at NODA Theatre Summer School. Applicants for a Bursary must also apply for a place at NODA Theatre Summer School and pay their deposit. If a student is unsuccessful in obtaining a Bursary and cannot attend, the deposit will be refunded.
4. Fees
For applications to attend the Summer School submitted before 5th June, a non-refundable deposit of £150 per student is payable with the application.
The full fee is due with any applications made after 5th June.
Balance of Fees: Deposits and other fees may be paid by credit card, debit card or by cheque. Cheques should be made payable to ‘National Operatic and Dramatic Association’. Post-dated cheques cannot be accepted.
Overseas students may pay by direct bank transfer. Euro cheques will not be accepted. Payment by bank transfer may incur an additional charge. All fees must be paid in sterling.
Please note there may be a small additional cost for course materials, but we will endeavour to keep this minimal. Details of materials, scripts, scores or equipment needed for their chosen course will be sent to students by the end of June
5. Payment Policy
All fees must be paid by 5th June (unless paying by direct debit). Failure to do so may result in NODA cancelling the place at the Summer School. The student will also be liable to pay a cancellation charge according to the cancellation policy below.
6. Cancellation
NODA may cancel a student’s place if full payment has not been received by the due date.
NODA may also cancel the Summer School due to circumstances beyond its reasonable control. If an unexpected event takes place, NODA may offer a place at an alternative course, date or venue or a full refund of fees paid. NODA is not liable for any consequential loss or costs incurred by a student due to a cancellation (for example, travel expenses).
The student may cancel their place by sending notice of cancellation to NODA Head Office. The notice will be effective upon receipt by NODA.
Refund Policy: The following refund policy applies to the Summer School:
· Cancellation before 5th June – full refund of fees paid, less the deposit
· Cancellation after 5th June – no refund.
NODA holds public liability and employers’ liability insurance. It does not cover cancellation, loss of personal belongings, or travel insurance within the course fee. Students are strongly advised to organise their own insurance, particularly against cancellation.
7. Health, Safety and Safeguarding
Students must provide comprehensive and accurate details on their application forms, including any allergies or pre-existing medical conditions. They must inform NODA of any subsequent changes to their health information. Facilities for students with disabilities are available. Please ensure that any access requirements are specified on the application form. NODA will make reasonable adjustments to accommodate these requirements.
NODA enforces a strict safeguarding policy. This policy details procedures for tutor conduct, reporting concerns, and managing behaviour. NODA may notify relevant authorities if a safeguarding concern arises.
Students grant permission to be photographed and filmed during the Summer School for internal, promotional and fundraising purposes unless the student withdraws their consent.
8. Conduct at the Summer School
All students must comply with the Summer School’s Code of Conduct and the reasonable instructions of Summer School Tutors. This includes rules regarding:
· Respectful behaviour: treating all tutors, staff, students, and venue property with respect
· Prohibited items: no possession or use of illegal substances.
· Boundaries: Following all safety and security regulations of the venue. No smoking, vaping is allowed in the venue. Alcohol may only be purchased from the venue and not brought in from outside of the venue.
NODA may take action, including immediate exclusion from the Summer School, if a student’s behaviour is considered significantly disruptive, unsafe, or a serious violation of the Code of Conduct (such as bullying, illegal activity, or repeated disregard for safety rules). No refund will be provided in the event of exclusion.
The Summer School’s Chair and/or Director’s decisions shall be final.
9. Additional Terms
NODA will process the student’s personal data in line with the Data Protection Act and the UK GDPR. Personal data will be used only for managing NODA membership and the Summer School, overseeing safety, and supporting legitimate charitable activities (including sending information about similar courses and other fundraising events). A student may opt out of marketing emails at any time.
These terms and conditions are governed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
