I was delighted to be invited to the 15th Annual WriteFest at progress Theatre. This was an opportunity for writers to submit original short plays and after an anonymised selection process have their work performed. It was good to see that new directors were involved and able for the first time to work with actors and put on a performance. The theatre had menotrs for both directing and on the technical side to support the teams.
It was a treat to watch 6 original short plays. I’m not sure if it was intentional that all six plays followed a theme of “all is not what it seems”, but that was the idea that came to me as I was watching. The plays were all different and the directors and actors worked well together in each piece, some of whom performed in more than one play, acted in one and directed another or acted and compered. The back stage and technical teams were kept busy with set changes and tech requirements, but it was all very slick and effective.
All in all this was a very enjoyable evening and great to see so many people involved.
