It was lovely to attend Twyford and Ruscombe Theatre Group’s production of The Pied Piper of Hamelin, and I was made very welcome.

This was a fun pantomime full of corny jokes, and lots of panto favourites thrown in. We had the Pied Piper who spoke only in rhyme, the perfect Dame who gave a powerhouse performance with bags of energy, the clumsy, but likeable fool, the sweet Principal Girl and thigh slapping Principal Boy and Queen Rat and her henchmen clearly revelling in playing the baddies, rotten to the core! The cast worked very well together and there were some great performances. All of the principals had good clear diction and volume and they drew us into the story of the Pied Piper with great gusto, supported by a large chorus. The cast took us along with them as they fought evil and came out the other side to live happily ever after.

The production was very well cast, and the director had developed the chemistry between the actors so that they were very natural together. The set was extremely well designed and executed with lovely hand painted backdrops and enhanced by a good lighting plot. The costumes were excellent and very colourful.

All in all, this was a most enjoyable production, enjoyed by all the audience, young and old.
