This excellent 1950s play was the choice of first-time director Nick Martin and although a challenging piece it was superbly acted and directed by a stellar cast and crew. Terrence Rattigan writes so well and this play deals with difficult subjects that are still very relevant today.

Every actor was on top form, especially the lead, Sara Thompson, who had a tour de force as Hester Collyer. Her character was on the edge as she turned brittle, pathetic, proud, blinkered and desperate.  Her portrayal was totally believable to an audience who were unsure whether the next suicide attempt would be successful.

This production had huge authenticity in set, costumes and props and enabled the audience to believe in the period.

Theydon Bois Drama Society continue to produce excellent plays and attract a highly talented membership.
