There's something rather lovely about a community pantomime that knows exactly what it wants to be. CATS' production of Puss in Boots delivered an afternoon of family-friendly fun packed with jokes, colourful characters, audience participation and all the silliness that makes pantomime such an enduring tradition.

From the outset, the production embraced the spirit of traditional pantomime, creating an atmosphere that encouraged both children and adults to join in the fun. There were plenty of laughs throughout, some lovely audience participation moments and a genuine sense that everyone involved was committed to entertaining their audience.

For a one-hour family show, the pacing felt right and the story remained easy to follow, ensuring younger audience members stayed engaged throughout. As the performance progressed, the cast settled into their roles and the production found an increasingly confident rhythm.

One of my favourite moments came when the enormous inflatable dragon appeared on stage. The delighted squeals and laughter from the children in the audience were a wonderful reminder of exactly what pantomime is all about.
