The emotional relief and joy visible on stage at the final curtain of Sister Act as the audience rose in applause was testament to both the performances and the long journey this production has been on since before covid together with the reported late changes backstage as the opening night approached. There must also be a sense of pride in finally getting the show to the stage before the professional revival opens in Manchester on the 27th of June!

It is a musical comedy with some great songs and a heart-warming story of a gangster’s moll and would be singer who makes good and relies on having a strong performer in the role of Deloris Van Cartier with excellent support from a number of the leading nuns in the convent where she hides under witness protection. WLOS are certainly fortunate to have the performers to fill these roles to a very good standard that keeps us smiling and toe tapping along to the wonderful gospel rock music.

Simply staged with an excellent stained-glass window to set the internal convent scenes, a simple and effective confessional at start of Act 2 and a glitter ball to turn the auditorium into a night club and with an excellent seven-piece band under the stage, the leading “Sister Mary’s” and ensemble of well costumed nuns did full justice to the uplifting and fun score to create a most enjoyable production. They fully deserved the huge response from the audience to an upbeat and fun evening.
