Thank you for inviting me to your youth production of Shakespeare Rocks. This was the perfect play for a youth groupi It had a funny script, lots of interesting characters, and rocky songs including a funny rap. Performing outside gave another dimension to the production and it was a bonus that the rain held off.

All of the cast of 29 young people looked to be thoroughly enjoying themselves and their enthusiasm was felt loud and clear. They had all developed their characters and wrung out every ounce of the humour from the script with excellent comic timing. They sang well with good volume and expression and the soloists sang with confidence, and good tuning. The songs had been well choreographed with simple stylised and synchronised movements and everyone danced with energy and enthusiasm.

The director had obviously worked hard with this large group of young people on their acting and singing to produce great characterisation and delivery, whilst keeping the performance light-hearted and fun. She had clearly given them confidence to perform and to enjoy themselves whilst doing so. The group had been well coached in the choreography and the dances were synchronised and effective. I particularly enjoyed the fun vibrant choreography in ‘Don’t Mention Mac’. The simple set design worked well with blocks covered with hessian and flower garlands to give a back -drop for the acting and the director took advantage of the large area behind the staging bringing actors in from every angle which added interest to the action. This was my first visit to a Wargrave production which I enjoyed immensely. Well done!
