Another success for Woodford in their 59th year. Trademark musicality, dancing and comic moments from an experienced cast, young and old. The show was short and to the point. Eight songs in each half (and no Disney – well done!), but still with slapstick, audience participation, kids on stage, ghostly apparitions and a sing-along. One of the delights of Woodford Panto is that the kids from the chorus come back every year, building in knowledge, confidence and experience and ending up taking bigger roles and indeed returning to the panto after further education. Set very simply, with suitable backdrops and a handful of sets (the Tower, Palace and Village) and using music to fill the brief scene changes, gives great continuity and the action flowed nicely between the scenes.

With the kids in the audience laughing and screaming at all the right times and the adults groaning at the puns but still joining in the fun, that is the beauty of panto and Woodford understand that and do it so well.
