Thank you for the invitation to your production of Pippin which I thoroughly enjoyed.
The cast and production team gave a high energy and entertaining show. The characters were very well developed and understood, and the director had ensured that the principals and ensemble worked together brilliantly with excellent chemistry. The director had designed the set with four tall and impressive arches which were very powerful entrances to the stage and multi-level stairs which were used to good effect.
Musical Direction was in the safe hands of a very experienced MD and all the singers produced accomplished performances with the different tones and harmonies blending very well indeed. The eight-piece band under his direction was excellent and hugely enhanced the performance. The choreography of stylised routines was creative, and very effective and all the dancers moved in synchronicity.
The cleverly designed lighting effects and lighting washes and the spots and lighting cues were expertly observed and enhanced the action. The sound was very well balanced between the band and the actors in the musical numbers and at no time did the band overpower the singing. The sound effects were appropriate and very well cued well. I really liked the echo effect which was interesting and effective. Costumes were well thought out and dressing Pippin in contemporary clothing which contrasted with period clothing for the royal court emphasised that he didn’t really fit in.
Well done on an excellent production.
