I was very pleased to be invited to see Shinfield Players Theatre’s production of Our House which after delays due to Covid and damage to the theatre in Storm Eunice finally hit the stage with a bang. The production team and cast are to be commended for “weathering the storm” of delays and cast changes to produce a vibrant and enjoyable show.
The director delivered an excellent and vibrant show and had ensured that the actors had been well prepared and understood their characters which were believable and engaging. The principals were excellent with great chemistry and were very well supported by the ensemble. All the singers produced accomplished performances and the balance of voices was superb, with all of the different tones blending very well indeed. The MD also led the band who accompanied the singers and ensured that they were well supported. The choreography was slick and precise with good use of repeated patterns and very reminiscent of Madness routines.
The set with a series of brick feature flats featured a screen used to show the different locations and the tech team had clearly had fun producing different locations and animation in the back projection. They were extremely effective and meant that scene changes were quick and seamless. The set had been designed with clever rotating black and white doors which were used to reinforce the good and bad sides of the lead character.
All in all, this was a very successful and enjoyable show.
