The one act format offers a good way forward for societies bouncing back after the Covid pandemic providing flexibility in the casting and rehearsal process and offering a varied evening’s entertainment for audiences returning to the theatre. The combination of Blood on the Canvas, a gripping tense thriller which kept the audience guessing throughout as to which was the killer and which the potential victim, and with a slightly bonkers comedy Anger Management with short sketches requiring swift changes in location as characters acted out their back stories. It offered an interesting evening in the new venue of the Old Court in Windsor and showcased the talents of the two actresses who played roles in both plays.
The simple black tabs stage setting made for an easy transition between the two plays while the clever use of props gave them both a very different feel . The Director of both pieces did well to ensure that the actresses created and sustained different characterisations in each play while the comedy gave all six cast the chance to portray several different characters in varied situations.
It was a well-directed and well-acted evening’s entertainment in an interesting and flexible Arts space.
