This delightful piece from Roald Dahl, adapted for the stage by David Wood was an ideal choice for an open-air production on a summer evening.
There were some late cast substitutions due to Covid but this did not interfere with an entertaining and enchanting production
The magical crocodile tongues were simply but extremely effectively realised. The peach tree itself was a simple and pleasing design. While good use was made of the performing area, some of the action could have been brought closer to the audience
The rhinoceros chase was both clever and entertaining. A hard-working ensemble also depicted fish, sharks, waves, gulls and the like – great use was made of them throughout.
Creature costumes were all quite ingenious and the creatures themselves were all well-rounded characters
In addition the villains of the piece, Aunts Sponge and Spiker were suitably over the top creations and very entertaining
This was an incredibly happy production with an enthusiastic cast playing to a very appreciative audience.
