The Penelopiad
Sinodun Players, The Corn Exchange, Wallingford
Argosy used all the facilities of the Winston Churchill and hordes of dedicated members to achieve spectacle, with pyrotechnics and theatrical smoke “throughout the performance”, proper pantomime sound effects, and strobes, moving lights and gobos to show off their artistic scenery and glorious costumes. Song and dance were well done and everyone worked hard, but the script provided no comedy support for the Dame (two “Avenue Q” puppets advising Jack didn’t fill that gap) and sparkling repartee was sadly lacking.
