I was very pleased to attend WLOS’ production of 'Iolanthe'. As with many productions currently, rehearsal time was affected by delays due to Covid, which must have been difficult. A huge well-done for making it to the stage, as it was lovely to see the cast having a great time performing together.

Despite having less rehearsal time than usual, the director had developed some lovely characters and ensured that the whole cast worked well together as a team with good interactions. There were strong performances from some of the principals, in particular, the Lord Chancellor and Queen of the fairies, ably supported by Iolanthe and the fairy trio. The fairies and peers worked well together as ensembles, singing strongly with some lovely harmonies. They supported the principals well and were in character throughout.

The set was well constructed and very much in keeping with the period. The costumes were colourful and fun with great attention to detail. I particularly liked the addition of fairy wings to the entire cast for the finale.

I enjoyed seeing my first G&S production since becoming the NODA rep and look forward to many more in the future.
