The latest musical revue, Evil Idol, was a refreshing and highly entertaining departure from the typical format. Conceived and directed by a talented creative team, the show cleverly pitted musical theatre’s greatest villains against each other in a tongue-in-cheek talent competition. The interwoven VT clips, witty commentary, and carefully curated selection of songs made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Despite the intense heat in the venue, the cast maintained impressive energy throughout – no small feat with such a large ensemble on a modest stage.

The direction and vision behind the production deserve real applause – from imaginative casting choices to the smooth handling of technical and spatial constraints, the overall execution was smart, slick and highly effective. Live music brought vibrancy to the show, with a skilled musical director and band adding depth and polish. Choreography was sharply delivered and complemented the performances beautifully, reflecting significant preparation and coordination.

Technically, the lighting design was inventive and mood-enhancing, and the sound was strong for the most part, with only a few interruptions that can easily be addressed in future productions.

Overall, the evening sparkled with talent, passion and originality. The company should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved.
