What a pleasure to be back again watching people enjoying themselves performing and celebrating the joy of Musical Theatre with friends and family. Jane Murphy curated , directed, and choreographed a delightful selection of familiar songs from classic musicals like Showboat and Babes in Arms from Forties and fifties, through Jukebox shows of the Sixties and Seventies music to more recent stage versions of The Bodyguard and Ghost. There was a gentle, reflective tone to the selection, easing performers and audience into the show.
The first-time venue, The Flavell, with tables of six around a show floor lent itself to the cabaret format, although the low ceiling and placing the band on the stage behind the performers was not ideal, so the Musical Director was not visible to the singers which must have added to the challenge of returning to the stage. I could see the whole cast grow in confidence as the show progressed building to a strong finish full of smiles and pleasure and earning the warm applause.
It was my first visit to the society and congratulations to the whole cast for a most enjoybale supper evening Celebatating Musical Theatre.
