Thank you for inviting me to your production of ‘Best of British’ a compilation of some of the classic British television series, comedy sketches and with a bit of Shakespeare thrown in. In the show, we were taken on a whistle stop tour of what we Brits love to watch. There were sketches from shows such as ‘The Two Ronnies’, ‘The Vicar of Dibley’, ‘Monty Python’, and ‘Dad’s Army’ as well as musical numbers from ‘Blood Brothers’, ‘Billy Elliott’ and a montage of British Pop Songs and Musical Theatre numbers.
The Directors had worked very hard with the group to deliver a large number of different sketches and musical numbers and the youngsters worked very well together. There were some excellent performances with the youngster demonstrating their acting and singing skills. I was so impressed that they were able to perform iconic sketches from shows that were on television years before they were born capturing all the nuances of the characters.
It was great to see both of your youth groups taking part and to have all 28 young people on stage for the musical montages at the end of each act. What I really love about this group is that the leaders give everyone the chance to perform even just a few lines so that they enjoy being on stage learning stagecraft together and gaining in confidence.
