It was a great pleasure to join Starmaker again for their production of Be More Chill. The basic story itself is somewhat similar to other high school, teen, shows, with a bit of sci-fi thrown in and the cast developed the story well and with great energy and enthusiasm.

The cast of thirteen were very tight and all seemed well cast. The production was well-rehearsed, with many of the cast doubling up on parts which they managed very well giving contrast to each part. The performance was full of energy and delivered with high-intensity and excellent character work. There were some great solo singing performances, with the principals well supported by the ensemble. And the choreography had been designed with steps and sequences which fitted the piece very well.

The band was not always well balanced and apart from a couple of quieter songs in the second act, all the performers were at times pushing their voices, despite their radio mics, which led to some forced singing which was a shame.

The simple set, with scene changes being managed largely by the cast, and all worked very well on the small acting area and the lighting was most effective and complimented the scene and mood changes very well.

As always, this group worked very well together and looked to be having a great time performing together on stage.
