The small company of eleven adults and eight juniors immediately had the audience on their side with the bright opening number ‘Dancing On The Ceiling’ with the audience clapping along enthusiastically. This was an interesting programme of contemporary numbers comprising of fun and moving numbers which appealed to this most supportive audience.
‘Water Under the Bridge’ sung by Caty Kerr was certainly one of the moving numbers whilst ‘Venus’ sung by the ladies chorus was full of fun. In contrast ‘Chasing Cars’ demonstrated some very smooth, harmonious singing. An old favourite,Petula Clark’s ‘Downtown’ was very well delivered by Gill Sullivan with a strong backing trio,Caty, Zoe and Holly.
One of my particular favourites in the first half was Cold Play’s ‘The Scientist/Yellow’ which had been arranged for voice and guitar by Caty. She and Cameron Atchison both played and sang, their voices blending beautifully. The Junior chorus sang their hearts out in ‘Daydream Believer’ and the first half concluded with Robbie Williams ‘Love My Life’ where once againn the harmonies were loud and clear.
It was party time to get the second half going with the full chorus telling us to ‘Shut Up And Dance’ followed by the Junior chorus ‘Famous’. The mood again changed with Sarah Murphy’s strong ‘Rotterdam’ followed by the adult chorus ‘Titanium’.
Country and Western then made it’s way into the programme with the men's chorus giving us a rousing ’Galway Girl’ complete with a backing group of line dancers. This followed by Cameron Aitchinson’s ‘Life Is A Highway’ certainly got a lively audience reaction.
The Junior Chorus treated us to ‘When I Grow Up’ from Matilda with some very sweet solo singing although the thoughts about growing up seemed to be a very serious business for some!
‘Call Me Al’ got the up beat tempo going while Gary Barlow’s ‘Sing’ rounded off the evening on a high with the company in fine voice.
This was a most enjoyable evening’s entertainment by a small but very able group. Whilst there were some strong individual vocalists it was good to see that, I think, every person on stage was given the opportunity to sing at least one solo line.
Well done again Forth Dimension Musical Production.
