As John was unavailable to review this production I was delighted to be able to stand in for him. I was greeted by an extremely friendly front of house manager who looked after me famously. It was lovely that the directors also made themselves known to me.
Farces’ are notoriously difficult to get just right; needing fast paced fluid action and precision timing. On this occasion there were moments of sheer brilliance and others that were not so hot. I also rather felt the script let them down. Whilst; for me, there were no laugh out loud moments; (although for other members of the audience there were) the gentle wit and humour kept me amused throughout. Unfortunately I think all the audience had worked out the true identity of Eddie before the end of the first scene; (maybe that was purpose of the script that the audience should know but the cast didn’t). That said it was an enjoyable evening’s entertainment with some fine performances from the cast.
