SLTA is the youth wing of Sleaford Little Theatre, providing performance arts training and communication skills for young people aged 8–18, emphasising a dynamic, diverse and inclusive approach to theatre education. Role Overview
SLTA is the youth wing of Sleaford Little Theatre, providing performance arts training and communication skills for young people aged 8–18, emphasising a dynamic, diverse and inclusive approach to theatre education. We are seeking a dedicated Drama Teacher and Theatre Practitioner to work closely with our lead teacher/director in delivering highquality classes and performances that reflect our ethos and respect our safeguarding and inclusion policies.
 
Key Responsibilities – Working alongside the SLTA lead.
• Teach engaging drama sessions that reflect SLTA’s values of diversity, inclusivity, teamwork, and personal growth.
• Plan, direct and produce teacher-led shows (pagetostage), handling all aspects of rehearsal and performance delivery.
• Dedicate voluntary hours during the runup to performances, coordinating:
o Technical rehearsals (sound, lighting)
o Costume, prop, and set planning
o Email liaison with lead for class preparation and show planning
• Develop lesson plans and deliver structured workshops aligned to age, ability, and genre.
• Support learners with SEND, ensuring full access to activities.
• Adhere to SLTA’s safeguarding policies, including maintaining a safe environment and an understanding of child protection procedures.
• Champion SLTA’s ethos in all interactions – promoting respect, wellbeing, and confidence among participants.
 
Working Hours & Remuneration
• Teaching Commitment: Every Saturday during term time from 11am – 1pm & 2pm – 4pm (24 hours per 6week half term - paid)
• Production Support: Additional voluntary hours
• Pay Rate: £20 – £30 per hour (depending on age and experience)
 
Essential Criteria
Requirement

Details

Experience

Minimum 3 years professional teaching in the public or private sector, plus drama/theatre and directing skills.

Curriculum Design

Skilled in lesson planning with a good understanding of both modern & classical texts including Shakespeare.

Technical Interest

Handson with sound, lighting, costume, props, and physical theatre

SEND Provision

Experience adapting workshops to support learners with SEND

Able to assist and engage with taking a production from script reading to live performance

Offers of employment are subject to 2 references, 1 personal and 1 professional, covering the last 5 years, being obtained.

Safeguarding

Full enhanced DBS plus strong knowledge of safeguarding/inclusion and best practice required.
