Session: Making a Murder Mystery
A course for writers, directors and performers to start with a blank page and end with a murder mystery whilst learning the building blocks of structuring and developing work for performance. Channelling our inner Miss Marple and Sherlock Holmes, we will work together to unpack the murder mystery genre and examine how to build a whodunit that really keeps an audience on its toes.
The course will feature writing sessions, devising sessions and staging workshops. By the end of the week, we will have devised our own murder mystery in the room as well as having the time and space to explore our own individual ideas.
During the week you will:
-
Explore the murder mystery genre and why it is so timeless
-
Interrogate the form and structures of whodunits and how they work
-
Expand our knowledge of devising strategies to devise a short murder mystery play
-
Investigate playwriting techniques and how to put them into practice
This is a practical course for writers who like to act and actors that like to write, as you will be doing both throughout the week. Have you always fancied yourself as an Agatha Christie? Come along and delve into the mystery. Hopefully there won't be too many red herrings along the way!
