Pirates of Penzance, one of the most popular of Gilbert & Sullivan’s operas, comes to CLOG’s stage from the 17th-20th June at Gardiner Memorial Hall in Burwell. Frederic, an apprentice pirate, falls head over ears in love with Mabel, one of Major-General Stanley’s daughters. Frederic believes he has just been released from his apprenticeship due to turning 21 that day, however his birthday - the 29th February - means he is considered a little boy of five and has many more years of duty to the Pirates. As a slave to duty, Frederic is now torn between his conflicting duties to the Pirates and Mabel. As always Gilbert unties these knots at the last possible moment and Frederic (hopefully) learns his lesson about blindly following duty.
