The Charming Theatre Company

Founded in 2015 by Ed Owen, The Charming Theatre Company is a Performing Arts School based in Hereford, specializing in Drama and Musical Theatre. The company offers a range of classes designed to build confidence, imagination, and performance skills in young people, led by a team of experienced teachers. Our classes cater to children aged 5-17 years, providing a supportive environment where participants can develop their talents and grow as performers.

Each year, we perform two musicals at a local theatre, alongside an annual drama showcase, Act Out! These productions give students the chance to shine on stage and be part of the creative process.

Ed Owen, the founder, has had a passion for performance since the age of seven, when he played a King in a school production. His lifelong dedication to the stage has seen him perform both on and off stage, having worked with the Bottleneck Theatre Company since 2004. Since 2015, Ed has also been a principal performer in the Hereford Amateur Pantomime Society (HAPS) productions at the Hereford Courtyard, portraying roles such as Kings, Princes, and even the Dame. His connection to the local community includes years of involvement with the Hereford Scout Gang Show, which he participated in both on and off stage from 1990 until parenthood took him away from Scouting activities.

Ed’s background as a trained primary school teacher with a BA Honours in Education has been integral in his work with children, helping them develop a love for the stage and a passion for performing. As a writer of original scripts, Ed has infused both the drama and musical theatre classes with unique, student-driven productions.

The Charming Theatre Company also benefits from a talented teaching team, including Nicola Owen, Poppy Layton,and Samantha Naylor, all from Nicola’s School of Dance and Hannah West who specilises as their vocal coach. Together, we look forward to inspiring and encouraging the next generation of performers.
