This was the opening night and I’m sure the company were very encouraged by the large audience and expectations were high as the Bartholomew Players always present polished and entertaining productions. This was to be no exception.  The high production values were evident as the opening music faded and the tabs opened to reveal a striking representation of the Prime Ministers study at Chequers. The set looked very realistic indeed.     The proportions were just right and although the set was quite lavishly furnished with all the trappings one would expect to see in the PM’s study there was plenty of room for the cast to move around freely without colliding at every turn.  Many hours of hard work had undoubtedly gone into the construction. This was Denise Santilli’s first foray into the world of directing and I can only say she did a first class job. The action was fast paced with cues being picked up rapidly and the movement of the actors around the stage looked realistic and natural.  It helps when you have a cast of this calibre to work with but none-the-less I hope this won’t be Denise’s last time at the helm of the directorial ship.  This complex play not only needs first class and experienced actors it requires careful directorial interpretation to bring out the humour - all of which it did in profusion. Congratulations! The excellent cast brought all the characters vividly to life and I would like to congratulate everyone connected with the production for a most entertaining evening.
