Wizard of Oz is a title made famous by the defining 1939 film but Tom Whalley converts the tale into a pantomime by making Aunt Em and Glinda a Dame, packing the script with innuendo and silly jokes, and  including traditional pantomime business like the ghost scene, song sheet, and character shout outs and call backs and it works very well. The characters are still recognisable as in their original form but there is a good balance with the comedy and audience engagement .

Quince Players are fortunate to have some young talented performers who rose to the challenge of creating the iconic characterisations as well as delivering with skill the comic business and musical numbers and then added some wonderful innovative projected back cloths to set each scene.

The directors made some good musical choices to assist the story and the team of choreographers drilled the junior and adult Ensemble in attractive routines as Munchkins, Oz reporters, Monkeys and Poppies. The result was a very good-looking show with a cast dressed in some excellent well-made costumes and with some stand out performances and the cutest of dogs as Toto.
