It is always a pleasure to visit with St. Faith’s Players and, on this occasion, enjoy their festive production ‘The Wizard of Oz’.  Arriving to an already filled and buzzing theatre foyer is always a pleasure to see. Being warmly greeted is certainly an added bonus! It is never easy to take on such a well-loved classic, even if it be a pantomime version, and this seemed a highly suitable choice for the occasion.

‘The Wizard of Oz’ is based on the 1939 film about Dorothy who, caught in a tornado and knocked unconscious, finds herself transported to a strange and magical land. Together with her dog Toto, and new friends Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion, they follow The Yellow Brick Road in search of the Wizard of Oz - each hoping to find what they so desperately want...

Alan Ward is to be congratulated as Director and for his efforts in bringing this production to life. Any production with such a large cast is a challenge in itself. On seeing a cast list totalling 40+ names I knew instantly the amount of hard work and effort required to take on such a task. Overall, the principals appeared to have been carefully selected and confident in their delivery of lines and movements. The children were terrific, full of enthusiasm and the number performing must have made for a very busy rehearsal schedule however!

The general ensemble entered into the spirit of the show brilliantly with the children in particular being confident, enthusiastic and a joy to watch. With such a large group it is not possible to mention everyone by name here.  Suffice to say that everyone appeared to be enjoying themselves, worked well together and that their involvement definitely added to the overall quality of this production.

Congratulations to St. Faith’s Players and everyone involved with this production of Wizard of Oz. This production worked well, and ran smoothly, giving the audience ample opportunity to become fully involved and have fun. Another successful pantomime for the society - well done everyone and Merry Christmas!
