It was a pleasure to have once again visited with Barnes Community Players and this time enjoy their production of Arthur Bradley’s play - ‘The Wizard of Oz’. It is never easy to take on such a well-loved classic but, with the festive season rapidly approaching, it seemed a highly suitable choice for the occasion.
‘The Wizard of Oz’ is based on the 1939 film about Dorothy who, caught in a tornado and knocked unconscious, finds herself transported to a strange and magical land. Together with her dog Toto, and new friends Scarecrow, Tinman and the Cowardly Lion, they follow The Yellow Brick Road in search of the Wizard of Oz - each hoping to find what they so desperately want...
Jane Gough is to be congratulated as Director and for her efforts in bringing this production to life. Staging the show ‘in the round’ certainly drew the audience into the action and ensured cast members used all areas of Kitson Hall with multiple entrances and exists. The cast had been carefully rehearsed and were confident in their delivery of lines and actions. The audience was involved throughout and the use of poppies was a nice touch here.
Congratulations once again to Barnes Community Players and those involved directly with ‘The Wizard of Oz’. I am sure that your continued support of charities will be much appreciated at this time of year and during the current financial uncertainty. I look forward to visiting again in 2023 and wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!
