Forever famous The Wizard of Oz is timeless and this production brought to the stage in Monmouth, was just the most outstanding re-enactment on stage of the film I have seen for some time adapted for the stage by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1988. The sheer enthusiasm and realism brought by the outstanding five Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion and all the cast took your breath away
Scintillating Holly Clack brought Dorothy Gale alive, and Judy Garland lived again as every second she performed and sang the role with an amazing Star Dog, Squeak as Toto and her friends, Scarecrow, Reuben Jones Tin Man, Adrian Bevan and Lion, Nick Thomson gave their fine performances to compliment her. Their real life roles were also very well played, with a strong Uncle Henry from Tim Bateman. Aunt Am was given a homely warmth by Katie Ellis and her goodness to a delightful Good Witch.
Who doesn’t just love a witch and Miss Gultch/Wicked Witch Andrea Pole gave us a superb one as she whizzed around the stage giving energy to every scene with a terrifying, gorgeous cackle.
The Wizard of Oz/ Professor Marvel was played to perfection by Cedric Gibbons
The superb score was in the expert hands of Musical Director Gareth Williams and his
excellent orchestra Innovative choreography from Andrew Griffiths and Josh Morgan
With vibrant ensemble, amazing young members, excellent set, costumes and lighting swift backstage and impressive Yellow Brick Road, well deserved success, thank you this was a magical visit ‘Over the Rainbow’ to remember!
