High School Musical Jr

My thanks to you all for my very welcome invitation to Shine Academy’s production of High School Musical Junior at the Congress Theatre Cwmbran. This being my first contact with Shine Academy I was very much looking forward meeting the Production Team and cast.

From the opening scene the response of this young cast filled the stage with energetic enthusiasm and smiling faces. They very obviously  related well to the structure and subject of this popular show and the characters they were playing.

As Gabriella Montez, our High School genius, Lydia Challenger made the character her own. With clear vocals and good stage presentation, she looked totally confidant in her role and related well with all full cast numbers. Very well done.

Gethin Williams as basketball star Troy Bolton took on the role of romantic vocalist and gave it 100% effort. He deserved to get the girl. His approach to the role was disciplined but relaxed with his growing confidence and obvious enjoyment throughout the performance. Well done.

Sharpay Evans the self- appointed High School Queen played by Cora Mansfield and her doting brother Ryan Evans played by Max Vicary, a duo everyone loves to hate. Self-opinionated, always right, bouncy and brash; They were a perfect fit. Some good comic timing and great facial expressions, especially from Max with some great body posturing from Cora. Well done both.

Brooke Everson as Jack Scott the maker of the High School announcement made this role absolutely her own. Her personality shone through her face with every announcement and carried her into every scene. Brooke has shown that a cameo role can seriously influence a show, and chorus lines are always seen.

My congratulations to all other cast members too numerous to mention individually. This very young company through hard work, good choreography, determination and enthusiasm  for performing have shared a magical experience together and I look forward to your next show being a full Two Acts and a challenge I’m sure you can take.
