A visit to the Layard Theatre on the first Saturday in July for the P&P Singers annual concert has become one of the highlights of the summer. As always this was a very entertaining concert with an exceptionally high standard of Performance. There were songs in the programme to suit all tastes with selections from Pop, Musical Shows, Opera and Requiems. I personally thought that the Opera section was outstanding. Easter Hymn from Cavalleria Rusticana, Chorus of Hebrew Slaves from Nabucco, Pilgrim’s Chorus from Tannhauser and a wonderful arrangement called Orpheus in the Underground.

With excellent presentation, the members of the choir always have happy smiling, faces and their eyes never wander far from “The Boss” Jean Chambers, who cues every move. Credit must also be given to excellent piano accompaniment from pianist Mary Potter, who had also written and arranged a wonderful comedy number about the Choirs’ Thursday night rehearsals.

This very versatile choir take some beating, an excellent concert.
