Peacehaven rocks! Well, it certainly did in June with the murder mystery event put on with plenty of verve by this Society. The audience were sat round tables in the auditorium and we were invited to discover who had killed the pop star. This was a play featuring hits of the 80s which eventually had the audience doing a conga round the room – great fun!
The cast included a double pop star act (Cuthbert and Derek Thompson) played by Roni Bromley and Judith Foot, one of whom was the victim. Nasim Chillcot had the job of narrating as the play went along and the suspects were as follows:
Alice Wigley (also played by Nasim Chillcot), Annie Sprinkles (Monika Stankova), Billie-Jean Culshaw (Lynn Enever), Detective Inspector Leather (Mandie Fairhall), Eileen Hassle (Jenny Day), Gale Trantor (Gillian Veck), Jane Barton (Judith Foot) and Miracle LeSash (Georgina Bancroft). Great acting from all these colourful characters, with Christine Twibill and Joy Roberts as backing singers. All had great costumes and certainly looked as though they were involved in the music industry during the eighties.
The company were joined by The Relics, a very talented group, who performed about ten of those great numbers from the eighties with members of the cast performing quite a few others.
The play was set in the Green Room of the Monastery Road Recording Studios and the scenery was ideal, with performing space set to one side. The programme was well presented and made an interesting read.
This sort of play with music was quite a departure for Peacehaven Players and it worked very well indeed with the audience tapping their feet throughout and racking their brains to find who had killed the pop star!
Well done to all involved (not forgetting those in charge of refreshments) for bringing something a little different to the Meridian Centre and special congratulations are due to Director Tony Garwood, Asst Director Roni Bromley, MD Ricky Horscraft and all the musicians.
