Matilda

I have never seen this large auditorium quite so full. This afternoon would be ‘Team Maggot’, the younger members of Act 1 Productions, that would be performing, 'Team Newt' to follow in the evening. 

Matilda, played by Charlotte Buckland, was truly excellent in her acting and singing. She played her part very intelligently, centred, confident and calm. You were admirable and all your hard work had really paid off Charlotte. This naturally brings me to mention ‘Trunchbull’, Matilda's nemesis. Well done, Erin Mackie, your affectations and presence certainly filled the bill. You were excellently mean, bombastic and truly ‘orrible!!! Emma Hudson was an ideal Miss Honey, as was Izabel Cliffe’s Mrs Phelps, confident, kind and ideal opposites to Trunchbull. Matilda’s Wormwood family were a treat in their selfish, slovenly portrayals.  Dad, played by Issac Bradford-Love, was excellently grim and mean, as was Lola Miller as a ditzy, thoughtless mother Mrs Wormwood. Lexi Palmer playing Michael Wormwood, Matilda’s brother, was ‘a chip off the old block’. Superbly horrible!!

Congratulations to all the dancers – you were excellent. I’m sure that Alice Jewell, your Choreographer, and Dance Captain Izabel Cliffe, were really proud of you all. Your singing - the solos and chorus numbers - were really very, very good, and every song was given the right level of energy. My goodness what a wonderful team!

As I write I realise that I haven’t even mentioned the crew that would have ‘shepherded’ behind stage, kept everyone quiet and safe and illuminated. This super show was clearly in the hands of a fabulous team – headed by Alice Jewell and Felicity Blackwell. Well done – you must have been shattered by the end of the week!

Oh by the way – the audience were really, really, really, really happy on this Saturday afternoon. I have never heard a response quite so loud before! My ears were ringing all the way home (in a good way!).
