As the festive season is almost upon us, what better choice could the Society have selected than "White Christmas". The stage adaption of the classic movie we all love to watch with out fail every year.  This was the perfect showcase with the wonderful musicical score and lyrics by Irving Berlin.

The show commences in 1944 with the General addressing his troops at Christmastime after an army concert, then jumps to 1954 in civillian life.

The story follows two World War 11 ex-buddies Bob Wallace and Phil Davis, (Richard Armstrong, Ethan Marescaux) turned song and dance men along with two sisters Betty and Judy Haynes, (Abbie Jordan, Helen Wrigglesworth).  All four were accomplished singers and dancers who brought the Irving Berlin numbers to life.  I especially loved the "I Love a Panio" and the "Blue Skies" numbers.

The part of the retired General struggling with civillian life (Roy Greenwood) suited him and fitted like a glove.  The meddling Receptionist/Housekeeper and former Broadway star Martha Watson, (Judith M. Morris) gave an impressive performance.  Young Susan (Phoebe Backhouse) wowed her audience with confidence and clear diction earning her applause. Good support from smaller parts and chorus.

It is hard for the cast to portray characters we have watched forever but they rose to the occasion and gave a performance not to be forgotten.

The sets were minimalistic which helped the transistion of the many scenes and .bright colouful costumes all helped to make this a Christmas Cracker.  Good Orchestra under the baton of Harry McCagherty, and a delightful finale complete with snow was the perfect ending.
