Well what a lovely way to start the festivities watching this iconic wonderful musical, with its marvellous songs. This production was on the whole very well done, there were lots of complicated scene changes, together with the translation from screen to stage which were handled well. Congratulations also to the musical director who obviously had worked very hard with the cast resulting in some quality singing. This society have some very promising young talent; John Allanach as "Bob Wallace" gave a very good singing performance, with his acting, sometimes a little too moody for my liking, being very believable, Rick Windley as "Phil Davies" has good comic timing and decent dancing ability. Lara McLeod as "Betty" demonstrated acting and singing skills and her scenes with John Allanach were very watchable. Manda Holderness as "Judy" gave a tidy performance with some quality dancing and acting, and the scenes with Rick Windley were very enjoyable. Victoria Mitchell as "Martha" was super, her comedy moments were very funny, an accomplished performer. Tony Harris as "General Waverley" was very good with a strong characterisation, and Emelia Hughes as "Susan" the granddaughter was lovely, giving a performance way beyond her young years, All the cast and ensemble were competent and had obviously worked very hard resulting in a very good show and an enjoyable evening. Well done to all.
