The Showstoppers Variety Show is an entertaining celebration of musical theatre, bringing together songs from a wide range of well-known musicals and giving the audience an evening packed with music, energy and theatrical flair. With a mixture of upbeat ensemble numbers, emotional solos and memorable songs, the show offers something for almost every musical-theatre fan.
One of the strongest features of the production is its variety. Rather than concentrating on one particular musical or style, the performers take the audience on a journey through different eras and genres of musical theatre. From classic West End favourites to more modern productions, each song brings a different atmosphere to the stage. This keeps the performance fresh and prevents the evening from becoming repetitive.
The cast are clearly enthusiastic and confident performers. With both younger and more mature performers working in harmony to produce great sound and entertainment.
The soloists have opportunities to demonstrate their vocal ability, while the ensemble numbers create some of the biggest and most exciting moments of the evening. Especially Flash Bang Wallop and Rhythm of Life. The performers work particularly well together during the larger songs, creating a sense of energy that spreads into the audience. Choreography was brilliant and so slick. Everyone looked confident.
The song choices are another highlight. Familiar numbers allow the audience to recognise songs they know and love, while the mixture of dramatic ballads and lively show tunes creates a good balance. The quieter songs give the performers a chance to show their emotional range, while the faster numbers encourage the audience to clap along and enjoy the spectacle.
A few highlights from the evening Lucy Jordans Version of Pretty little dead things from Paddington, Great vocal and sinister acting. I hate Men sung with character and comedy by Maggie Davies and the closing number which was the full company building a fantastic show to a phenomenal conclusion with One Day More from Les Mis
The staging is simple but effective, allowing the performers and music to remain the main focus. Changes in lighting and choreography help distinguish the different sections of the show and add visual interest. The production understands that a variety show does not need an elaborate set when strong performances and popular music are at the centre of the entertainment.
Perhaps the greatest success of Showstoppers is the atmosphere it creates. The audience are not simply watching a collection of songs; they are being invited to celebrate musical theatre alongside the performers. There is a real sense of fun throughout the production, particularly during the bigger ensemble numbers.
Overall, Showstoppers Variety Show is an enjoyable and energetic evening of musical theatre. Its mixture of familiar songs, Extreamly talented performers makes it accessible to both dedicated musical-theatre fans and people who simply enjoy good live entertainment. Well done to all cast, crew. You did yourselves proud.
