Whistle down the Wind is a show which does not appeal to everyone, however it is a show that I really like, and this production did not disappoint.  The director Donna Switzer-Green captured the essence of the piece, and is to be congratulated on a good production, bringing out the varied emotions this show evokes.  Musically this show is challenging but Sue Rowland rose to that challenge, culminating in some very good singing, however on occasion the band was too loud, resulting in lines not being heard clearly.  The ensemble worked very hard providing a valued contribution to the production, however sometimes the singing was pitchy and hesitant.  It is vital to this show that the principles are strong, Helena Graham shone like a star with a beautiful clear voice perfect for the role of Swallow, Ken James as Boone gave both a strong acting and singing performance, Harriet Brown and Edward Brown as Brat and Poor Baby were adorable, and the family scenes were wonderfully touching.  Chris Wales as The Man brought the character to life, with strong acting and singing, on occasion certain parts of the vocals could have been interpreted as a little shouty, however in my opinion this gave power to the lyrics.  Other good principle performances from, Jack Buck as Amos, Dave Blaker as the Snake Preacher, Polly Diaz-Thomson as Candy, Jayden Brown as Edward, Phil Martin as the Minister and Fiona Sellars as Pearl.  This society has some excellent young talent and the Children's Ensemble were just great, with the "When Children Rule the World" number excellently performed.  This society are very talented and I really enjoyed the evening.
