My first reaction to the venue for this production was impressive. The stage was very wide and the home built scenery looked good.
Overall the production was good. Christopher Adamson as Boone, the father displayed good strength and warmth. The children played by Ellie Atkinson as Swallow showed good naivety in the character and sang her songs well. She was well supported by her siblings Ellie Brannan as Brat and Benjamin O’Connor as Poor Baby, all three giving strong performances. Matthew Clarke gave an excellent performance as The Man. He had the right look for the role and had good light and shade in the character with the added bonus of a strong vocal. All the supporting principals, together with the chorus and especially the children contributed well to this slightly dark, but enjoyable production.
I should like to express my thanks to the Society for the wonderful, friendly hospitality. I felt very welcome and enjoyed a good evening’s entertainment.
