The set and the opening chorus of this production of Whistle down the Wind really set a wonderful scene for the whole production. The set was outstanding and the commitment from each member of the company was amazing. The singing was great as too was the energy from the ensemble and principals alike.

I was very impressed with the stage management, the changes of scene being executed perfectly. Not an easy task with so many changes! The costumes and lighting were effective and added to the show as a whole.

The principals were strong and mention must go to Steve McCarthy as Amos who sang splendidly and Lauen Jones as Candy for her vocal ability and lovely characterisation from both. Mark Warren gave a suitably fatherly performance as Boone and Alexander Williams as Poor Baby and Amy-Beth McCarthy as Brat were excellent in their roles. Stuart Broad as ‘The Man’ was very good and gave a strong performance with some good singing at times. The children’s ensemble was brilliant and gave fabulous performances every time they were on stage.

Special mention must go to the outstanding performance of Sarah Clatworthy in the role of Swallow. Her characterisation was perfect, acting beautiful and she sang with conviction, a high technical standard and I believed every word she sang and said. This young lady is indeed a rising star and we would do well to watch out for her in her career!

I was thoroughly entertained and my congratulations go to the company both on stage and off stage!
