Abertillery have a fine reputation and with a dedicated society and many experienced members to showcase always impress. Director Colin Lewis proved again he is a master of choreography no one creates large chorus scenes so skilfully, enhanced with stylish lighting by Steve Baker

Compere of the evening was the outstanding Gareth Baskerville, a perfect balance of professionalism and warmth and from Another Openin’ the chorus lit up the stage.

Debbie Harrington’s Wonderful Town was an expressive and beautifully sung rendition to delight the appreciative audience.

The well balanced programme included excellent guest performers, pianists Mairwyn and David Hutchins and trumpet soloist Travis Griffiths interspersed with company performances of new and remembered show numbers.

The Gilbert & Sullivan medley included a soaring Hail Poetry and excellent performances by Sarah Butcher, Julie Hole, Val Rosser, David Livingstone, Kevin Smith and Debbie Harrington. Sarah Butcher also performed a delightful Dolly Levi, Hello Dolly section. One and only actor Alan Jones gave poignant amusing monologues. We were taken through Phantom of the Opera, with the exceptional voice of soloist Kevin Smith and Oliver including no doubt the finest performance of Bill Sykes’ My Name from Robert Bayton, to the ultimate Queen finale. This company excel when it comes to singing, the full house applause appreciated the controlled perfection a credit to them and their outstanding MD Stephen David.

Congratulations to you and thank you, it was a special night, a pleasure to attend, you can be very proud of your highest standards whenever you take to the stage.
