A selection of well-known and much loved wartime songs formed the basis for this concert presented in aid of the Poppy Appeal and being one of a series of dates in and around East Yorkshire.
Performed either as group numbers or solos and duets the audience knew most of the numbers and joined in enthusiastically. The musical items were interspersed with readings from letters sent by or to troops engaged in battle and also included a letter from a 20 year old soldier stationed in Afghanistan.
The highlights of the evening for me were a beautiful rendition of Come Sing To Me, together with Danny Boy, A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square and Look For The Silver Lining. The group also performed Wherever You Are which Gareth Malone and his Military Wives Choir presented at the Remembrance Day Commemoration a couple of years ago.
The finale of the concert included the poem They Shall Not Grow Old and the full ensemble singing Land of Hope and Glory and Jerusalem which was a suitable way of reminding everyone of the sacrifices made on behalf of all of us.
