This energetic and confidently delivered production of We Will Rock You – Young@Part demonstrated just how effectively this challenging rock musical can be adapted for young performers. The show was staged with clarity, commitment and a strong sense of ensemble, allowing the youthful cast to tell the story with conviction while embracing the humour, heart and rebellion at the core of the piece.
The direction showed a clear understanding of how to present the heightened, futuristic world of the show in a way that was accessible to both young performers and audience members. Character relationships were well defined, and the action flowed smoothly from scene to scene with effective pacing. Comedy was handled confidently and never rushed, while moments of sincerity were allowed space to land emotionally.
Musically, this was a strong production overall with vocal arrangements which sat well within the capabilities of the cast, and there was an admirable attention to tuning, diction and ensemble balance. Harmonies were secure, and solo work was generally confident. It was good to see those with less experience being given an opportunity with solo lines in Bohemian Rhapsody.
Choreography was well judged for the age group and brought energy and shape to the production without overwhelming the performers. Group numbers were dynamic and cleanly executed, with good use of levels and formations. There was a strong sense of unity within the ensemble, and the performers moved with intention and confidence. Character-driven movement strongly supported the storytelling, particularly in the contrast between the rebellious Bohemians and the rigidly controlled Globalsoft world.
This was a confident, joyful and well-delivered youth production of We Will Rock You – Young@Part. With its strong performances and positive energy, this production not only entertained its audience but clearly provided a rewarding and development-rich experience for the young performers involved.
