‘We Will Rock You’ is a juke box musical set in a dystopian future world where music and individuality is forcefully repressed. The leading characters of Galileo and Scaramouche join forces with the rebellious group of Bohemians to change this. The storyline may be a little outlandish but for me it is all about the fabulous songs and music of Queen and this show certainly packs them all in. The sets were minimal but very effective and the costumes were outrageously fitting.
There were some wonderful performances. Galileo (Jason Goodall) was outstanding and so too was Scaramouche (Rebecca Witty). Their chemistry together was a perfect pairing with great emotion and humour. So many songs for both but their strong vocals shone through. Kashoggi (Simon Preston) gave an imposing characterisation and had great presence. Killer Queen (Lindsay Ellis) was strong and outrageously camp. Britney (Kieran Goodhand) and Oz (Jessica Waggott) were a great pairing and I was particularly impressed with ‘No One But You’. Buddy (Wayne Newton) played the hippie historian with great comedic quality and strong vocals. The company of Gaga Kids, Teachers, Yuppies and Bohemians all played their part and the vocals and movement all round were excellent.
Congratulations must go to all the production team of Director/Choreographer Wayne Newton, Musical Director Robin Parish and his musicians and Choreographer Sophie Haigh. This was a spectacular production in every way. The audience loved it. Thank you Wilton Productions for a wonderful evening.
