‘We Will Rock You’ as performed, was a shortened version of the very popular jukebox musical. It's set in a dystopian future where Earth is known as Iplanet, and a huge company called Globalsoft has taken control of the world. People act like sheep and are without emotion or opinions and music has been forgotten and banned. The musical tells the story of young rebels (Galileo and Scaramouche) who join forces to overcome the Company and bring back their music. It’s a joy from start to finish as the well known Queen songs come thick and fast. There are innovative dance routines, well choreographed fights and struggles as the story unfolds.

The set was simple and kept changing as the action moved. The use of various levels kept the action interesting and the set changes were done quickly and often part of the action.    The props were good such as the tv/video. The costumes were impressive and in keeping with the story; some grim, dark, punk style and bright pink flouncy glittery dresses for the Killer Queens. The lighting was excellent and combined with the scintillating costumes added colour to an otherwise dark world.   There were some unforgettable performances from strong exceptional cast. There were clear and powerful voices as the cast ran through the back catalogue of Queen ranging from upbeat numbers, raucous rockers and emotional ballads.

The production was as a result of a ten-day workshop, the first time BNG have undertaken a show with this rehearsal process and having a public showing at the end of it. When the cast used the auditorium for part of the action, this added to the audience feeling included in the show. The energetic dance numbers were choreographed with flair and these were exciting to watch.  It’s absolutely amazing what a bunch of young people can create in ten days when they are under strong and exuberant leadership. The show was a bold and booming spectacle full of magical musical numbers.   Using a quote from the programme: I massively “enjoyed the crazy world of Bohemians, Punk Rockers and wicked Killer Queens.
