The Scout Hall at South Queensferry was very cleverly transformed to a cabaret/casino setting complete with a roulette wheel in the middle of the bar table and casino style napkins and paper plates on the tables in the room. Immediately the audience was put in the mood for the most enjoyable Vegas cabaret which followed.
The compilation of numbers were all well known and the first half got off to a bouncy start with the full company of 21 members including the very young members and the more mature giving it their all in Elvis’s’ Viva Las Vegas’. Indeed when the full company performed together it was a real joy to hear such favourites as ‘Top Of The World’ ‘Tragedy’ and ‘Is This The Way To Amarillo’ which had the audience joining in to conclude the first half. The second part of the evening romped along fast and furious with ‘Love Me For A Reason’ being particularly memorable and giving the opportunity to show off some good part singing.
The company is very fortunate in having some real up and coming talent as well as some more experienced performers. ‘The Kiss’ was very well sung by Amy Hogg who as well as having a good voice has a lovely bubbly personality. Julie Hart gave a strong confident performance with Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’ while Caty Kerr blew us away with her meaningful delivery of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Dreams’
David Hodgson is a real natural in cabaret and his ‘Strangers In The Night’ was relaxed and charismatic. He and the only three other men in the company, all of whom had good voices, were in great form in ‘Copacabana’ which was great fun and sounded first class.
Again the company showed off it’s talents in ‘Rhythm of Life’ which was performed with gusto and enthusiasm.
I think what makes Forth Dimensions Cabarets and also pantos so enjoyable is the informality of it all. It is very evident that everybody on stage is really having fun and this atmosphere of fun and enjoyment transfers to the audience.
Once again this was a most entertaining evening. Congratulations to all in Forth Dimensions !
