The Vicar of Dibley was adapted from the orignal TV series by Richard Curtis and Paul Mayhew-Archer. It starred the vivacious Dawn French, Emma Chambers, Gerry Waldhorn and James Fleet. This was a Brirish sitcom on BBC 1 and it ran from November 1994 to January 1998. It was set in the fictional village of "Dibley", they made three series plus extra Christmas specials.
Brighouse selected "The Arrival" where the very old Vicar passed away and the congregation were amazed to find they were assigned a woman Vicar. The second was "Easter Bunny" and the final one "The Wedding".
This talented group presented an evening of hilarious entertainment, each member of this team excelled in their charactersations. The Vicar Geraldine Granger, (Sarah Jane Poyner) was full of bubbly energy, Alice Tinker, (Emma Newsome) portrayed the scatterbrained, ditzy Verger brilliantly, especially in "The Wedding". Hugo, (Richard Walsh) her suitor acted his role nervously. His father David, (Trevor Davis) the pompus Chairman of the Council, suttering Jim Trott, (Sean Brennan) along with Owen, (Robert Davison) the down to earth Farmer, all delivered their characters superbly. Mrs Letitia Cropley, played by Peggy Ellis showed her experience during her death scene in "The Easter Bunny". Simon and Frank, (Brett Riley Thompson) completed the cast list , both gave good performances. That just left the Bridesmaids!!! Least said soonest mended.
The stage set worked perfectly as they switched from room to room swiftly and smoothly, from committee room to the vicarage and the home.
Congratulations to everyone involved on and off stage. Well Done.
