There were plenty of laughs on offer at this production of this One Act Comedy /Drama. Set in a rehearsal for a murder mystery, the cast is as usual dominated by the leading lady, Cassiopeia who always demands the main role from her husband Bertram, who is also the group’s Director. Janet Davies gave a creditable performance as Cassiopeia, the over-the-top, flamboyant spoilt leading lady, but always suspicious of her husband’s stream of mistresses and his infidelity. Martin Hill gave us a believable portrayal as the down trodden husband making excuses and trying to please.

A confident performance from Sue Rogers as Anastasia, the couple’s next-door neighbour, who kept disappearing and re-appearing on the scene added mystery to the piece, Geoff Skelhorn was on the ball with his note book in the role of dithering Detective Inspector Whelping, and together with his side-kick Constable Shortley, Keith Lewis, were in charge of the majority of the comedy. I always expect a solid performance from Margaret Norwood and this was no exception in her portrayal of Molly the cleaner. Eileen Burtonwood was spot on as aspiring actress Esmerelda. A glitzy performance from Eileen as she took centre stage and quoted from Romeo and Juliet, A Winter’s Tale and other pieces to impress, I loved her entrances and exits. Another mistress perhaps!

Set was adequate, costumes well thought out and although a few prompts were on the cards, it did not mar the entertainment from this commendable group.

Thank you CHAPS for all your invitations, hospitality, and friendship, best wishes to you all in the future.
